Dungeon Mechanics

General Information

  • Dungeon difficulty scales with group size (solo has a greater chance of better loot).
  • Deaths are not safe, and you will respawn in Death's Office.
  • Story mode exists for players who aren't great at combat but want to go through the lore.
    • There won't be any crazy drops (just lore pages/books), and it isn't safe death.
  • NPCs can be right click marked similar to regular Dungeoneering.

Check-Point System

  • There will be a check-points in the dungeon.
    • Makes it easier to return upon death or after re-gearing.
    • Check-points are unlocked upon accessing/completing boss areas.
    • May add a new one in the Temple of Aminishi to Area 3.
  • The check-point teleport option will be located on Loot chests.

Content

  • Room Barriers - You must kill a certain number of enemies to progress through the dungeon.
    • There are side routes which aren't required, but provide more loot opportunities.
  • NPC Behavior System - NPC will interact with the environment and each other.
  • NPC Aggro System - If one sees you, it aggro's all NPCs in their tile range, which in turn applies again.
    • Works around corners.
  • Celestial dragons rewind time (heal themselves) in this dungeon rather than freeze time (stunning you).

Mini-bosses

  • There are a total of 13 Minibosses, but only 4 will span per dungeon.
  • There will be icons on the minimap to indicate miniboss locations.

Rewards/Drops

Normal Loot

Drop tables won't have raw resources but instead are replaced with new alchables/disassemble-able.

  • Combat XP, Dungeoneering Token/XP, and items are awarded upon defeating normal mobs/minibosses.
    • Only mini-bosses and regular bosses will give the Dungeoneering tokens.
  • Relics (different rarities) - Alch for GP or Disassemble for Components.
    • These items will have the same disassembly drop table as gizmos, basically almost all components.
    • Rare relics from both Aminishi and Dragonkin laboratory will disassemble into only Rare components (excluding Ancient, Fortunate, and Refined).
  • Draconic energy - Item used to create Elite Tectonic armor.

Bosses

First boss: Astellarn, the First Celestial

  • 550K HP
  • All dragons will use these animations in the future.
  • Attack animations include: claw left, claw right, bite, tail whip left, tail whip right, a breath attack.
  • The 1st Celestial Dragon ever created.
  • Boss hits like a freight train, it's over quite quickly if you do it right.

Second boss: Verak Lith

  • 600K HP
  • A similar but younger (and more powerful) version of the KBD.

  • Flame tongue is his nick-name (Armies of Gielinor reference)

Third boss: Black Stone Dragon

Boss Pet

  • We promised a boss pet for Dragonkin Lab but it won't be in-game on release.
    • We don't want to re-use textures for the pet despite that being the goal of the project.
  • However, we are still allowing players to claim the pet item/token as a drop.
    • Thresholds and normal interactions will apply as normal.
  • Once ED3 comes out players who have the token will be able claim the pet.
    • May add a cool cut-scene alongside it as well.

Interesting mechanics.

:11: @ the pet thing. Absolutely hilarious that Jagex would allow that to happen given all the recent backlash.

I'm just so confused by the phrasing here; at least make it come across as more contrite with some evidence of professional maintenance.

Even something as simple as:

"Due to the boss pet requiring rather more development time than expected, it will not be available at release, although players will be able to obtain the drop."

This implies regret and more clearly and directly explains the reason for the delay.

In any case, Dragonkin Laboratory looks like a lot of fun, at least! :) I look forward to dying in Story Mode~
