Anyone ever have a car side mirror randomly detonate

I was sitting in a parking lot waiting on someone when my side mirror detonated. I think it was from the defrost from the A pillar hitting half of the mirror since the windows were halfway down.

Was it incredibly cold outside and then it got ht with a sudden blast of hot air? That's crazy.

Extreme temperatures will crack glass, I'm guessing it was super cold?

I was actually parked with the defrost on in a 98 camaro with the windows halfway down. About 25% of the mirror was exposed to the heat from the defrost out of the car, and the other part of the mirror was in around 30F temperatures.

 

Right before it exploded this is what i basically heard:  crack, crack, clunk, boom.

 

I thought a tire blew out but it was the mirror. I'll post a photos below from my cellphone. I'm on my pc.

Don't mind the dirty paint. I live in a secluded spot that I can never keep the car clean.

It blew out the plastic as well? Never seen something like that.

Wow, glad it didn't blow into your door and damage the paint or anything.

nope never had it happen

It didn't damage the paint, but there are shards of glass embedded in the passenger window. Might have to replace it if it starts to spider crack.
