Anyone else WFH due to virus?

The event business that I run has been decimated, and will continue to be so through April, and now possibly through May and June.  Already lost 15% of our income for the year, and it's not likely we end up down a minimum of 30% before folks start having events again.  I also suspect that fewer people and companies will host large events in the aftermath.  Went from a very strong start to the year to possibly having to take a huge slash in salary, and decimating the business.

TBD how much I'll be working from home.

That absolutely sucks. Sorry to hear Rafi. :( Is there any silver lining?

My kid's school is still in session

Welp, they've now moved to online classes for at least the next five weeks. I was starting to wonder when this would finally happen.

I mean, I guess being underemployed is kind of like having more free time until you can’t pay the mortgage?

My employer still hasn't given us a firm directive on whether or not we should be working from home or not, but yesterday we got the all-clear to take home our desktop machines home so starting today I figured I'd do my part and stay home.

Interesting bringing your desktops home.  Do you not have a hardwired network they are part of? I use google remote desktop to teleport in and use the desktop machine to access the database and hard files.

Typically we'd just check out a laptop from our IT department (for those of us who aren't important to have a permanent one, anyway) and use that to remote into our network from home, but we're a relatively small company and don't have close to enough laptops for everyone to take one home so they pushed the VPN software to everyone's desktop machine yesterday in preparation for this.

This is nuts, Iowa state of emergency.. today they are closing down all bars and restaurants, gyms, theaters, casinos, nursing home, etc. and requiring all mass gatherings of more than 10 people to be canceled or postponed.. through at least March 31st.. Not to mention our stores are looking just about as crazy as everybody else's..

Also our entire company now is work from home..

Yeah I'm sure that they put it there so they can extend it later without mass panic..

Supposed to drive back to Boston from Ohio tomorrow and Thursday. There’s rumor of the state going on lockdown like Italy soon though. Feels like we’re racing against the clock.

I can't imagine a situation where they don't let residents back in. You'll be okay

Trying to run my dissertation project this semester. Yet now all research is suspended. I don't earn money as a grad student; as time goes on I only accumulate more debt. This set back is likely going to cost me a year of my career life, assuming I find some way to pay for bills.

Same + beaches closing. It all starts this friday, either WFH or no work but still paid, from 20 March to 20 April was the date they gave. Extended semana santa (easter or spring break for you?) they call it, it was supposed to start on the 5th of april
