Low level Farming Tips: How I went from 12-88 Farming in 3 weeks

Introduction

When I came back to Runescape after a long time off. I wanted to level farming up so I could do quests like the Fairy Tale series. The first thing to consider is learning where the farming patch locations are and what they offer. Then comes what do you plant or grow in your patches. For me, I grow the best crop for my farming level. As a general rule, I've found that if you grow the highest level herb, allotment, and flower to start off you get a generous amount of experience. These patches grow quickly and you could do 3+ runs a day if you wanted to. I usually only do two runs when I check my trees which is at night and in the morning.

Getting Started

The four primary farming patches are: 1. Ardougne at Manor Farm. 2. Catherby (north of the bank), 3. the Cabbage patch by Falador which you can teleport to with explorer's ring and 4. Canafis (just east of Frankenstein's Castle. The easiest ways to get here are to use lodestones or the explorer's ring and do a short run. Each of these locations has a flower patch, herb, and two allotments which form the bread and butter of early farming. For me I grew the best crop I could at the time. So I started with tomatoes in the allotment patches until I unlocked Sweetcorn. Use supercompost and it decreases the disease chance. The tool leprechaun at each patch stores compost and other items. You can also pay the farmer to protect them but I don't do this. Throw in some flowers which are a good money source and you can fund your early seeds. After a few runs, you will unlock your first tree which is Oak. And while you can do bushes at this point, I waited until I unlocked barberry bushes which give agility experience.

Trees

The first tree you unlock is Oak Trees. It took me a minute to find on grand exchange. The seed is actually an acorn not oak tree seed like all the others. It takes roughly 8 hours to grow, so realistically do a run in the morning and then one at night. It gives 467 experience and there are 4 tree locations for beginners. They are Taverly north of the bank, Falador Park by Sir Tiffy, Lumbridge by the furnace, and Varrock Castle. Continue to do your core farming of allotments, herbs and flowers. Simply grow the highest level item you can for the most experience. Because farming goes quickly, don't stock up too much on seeds. You will be a higher level before you know it, and will be able to use higher level seeds which award more experience. For me, I did Oak trees until I unlocked willows and then maples and then yews. None of these tree seeds are pricey. The pricey one is actually magic tree seeds but you don't unlock them until 75 farming. Remember, to use supercompost on the tree. And one last thing, you plant the seed in a plant pot with soil and then water it and wait for it to turn into a sapling. Unless you want roots, you can just check health and then clear the tree to plant a new one. Plant Pots can be bought on the grand exchange. The limit is 100 every four hours.

Fruit Trees

The first fruit tree unlocked is Apple Trees. Be warned that you level up quickly so only buy 8-12 of them. Because you will be 33 and have banana trees unlocked quickly. The Fruit Trees Locations for low level players that I use are 1. Catherby (Teleport to the lodestone and run east until you see the farming patch, its at the end of the beach and fishing areas). 2. Brimhaven (Teleport to Karamja Lodestone and run north until you reach it) 3. Herblore Habitat (Use a juju teleport bag which can be bought on ge for 3k, shop at location sells for 2k and there is a bank deposit here. ) 4. Tree Gnome Village (Have to some quests which I had already done. You teleport using grand exchange spirit tree and then squeeze through fence and escort out of maze. The Tree patch then is just West.) Priff has a fruit tree patch and normal tree patch but you need a lot of quests and 75 in several skills to unlock. Leitya also has a fruit tree patch but I don't have the quests required for it yet. Together this 8 total tree patches will level farming quickly. Fruit Trees are only 1 run a day. I plant in the morning and then check health at night. At level 72, I unlocked calquat which is southeast of Karamja Lodestone and is roughly 13k experience. Think of it as a fifth fruit tree patch but only calquats can be planted here.

Player Owned Farm

The last thing to keep in mind is player owned farm. I did the tutorial which explains it. You start with rabbits which are solid experience at low level. But you will want to upgrade to chickens once you hit 28 farming. Sheep are the first animal for medium pens and cows for the large pen. It takes a while to get them. But they are good experience. I just grow the best level animal for the pen type., For food, I use bananas which are cheap fruit to buy. And Woad leaves. 25 gp each and you can buy unlimited amounts from Falador Park by the pond bridge. Once you get chinchompas they eat anything so woad leaves are the cheapest food. I do carniverous chinchompas and sell the red chinchompas on the ge. For rabbits and chickens I just bought the cheapest option on grand exchange. Chichompas took me like 7-10 days to unlock. Also be sure to start Anachronia early. It is timelocked. You get resources based on a timer that you use to build the pens. Frogs unlock at 42 farming and are 40k experience a day if you check in morning and night. Remember each pen can hold 4 animals. For medium pens, I did sheep until 64 when I got spiders. Tomato seeds can be bought in bulk to feed them and are not too expensive.

Conclusion

This is pretty much what I did to train farming and I'm currently 88 following what I described above. Be sure to do the Fairy Tale quests for useful rewards like magic secateurs which give +10% harvest from allotments. The third and final one gives a magic watering can, so you don't have to refill watering cans anymore. Anyways good luck and happy farming. Feel free to add tips. My goal in the coming weeks, is to do the quests to work towards Prif and continue to level farming.

Thanks for sharing your tips and good luck on 99 and beyond! There you'll be using the player owned farms even more.

When you start needing food, go to the Oo'glog meat seller for cheap meat packs. (Might need some questing for him to sell you)

Yes I need to do at least 2 quests to unlock that place. I can do Zogre Flesh Eaters. But I need to train hunter more to do As a First Resort

This is a great guide with useful tips for lower-levelled farmers!

I have 116 Farming now, and I still have yet to touch Player-Owned Farms. You're doing wonderfully well, and will no doubt be prepared in future. :3

Thank you for sharing! :D
