SeersNCHill Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 We’ve all got that one quest in RuneScape that makes us roll our eyes every time it pops up. Maybe it’s the one with endless running around, some boss fight that feels way too unfair, or a puzzle that makes zero sense no matter how many guides you look at. So I’ve gotta ask: What quest do you absolutely hate doing? And what about it drove you crazy? Let’s hear the salty stories — I’m sure most of us have struggled through the same ones at some point. My quest was Broken Home. It was long and pointless, just clicking door after door... I love a good challenge but that was soul destroying
Hiking Boots Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Underground quest. I tried doing it with the minimum agility level. Emphasis on tried because I went and got my agility level up and attempted it again with better success… I did not realize I had the vernacular of a sailor, but that quest brought it out.

Oh god, I can't wait to do that quest again. The agility part is just horrid
Bill Eh Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 One small favor Only because I done it day of release and was trying to help fill in the quest quide on the rs forums at the time

Firemakers Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Broken home is a good contender, I avoided re-playing it for so long because it did my head in *so* much Mourning's End part 2 was also pretty awful, as was Sliske's endgame, both have very a time-consuming maze puzzle that left me a broken man afterwards
Dariot Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 (edited) I had the most trouble with Alpha and Omega (the fight with Rasial) probably due to being undergeared at the time (Tier 60 necromancy gear). Since I completed the quest I haven't gone back to try to fight him again. Since I can mostly follow step-by-step instructions fairly well, no quests really stand out as being problematic to me. Sliske's Endgame was kind of annoying but I did complete it in one try. Haven't really made any other characters since I got quest cape though. Edited January 14 by Dariot updating
Beric Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Mournings End Part II broke my streak of completing quests without using a guide. I couldn't figure that light puzzle out to save my life. I could barely do it with the guide.

Rely on them so much haha
Toxyre Posted September 30, 2025 Posted September 30, 2025 Rat catchers. To this day I vehemently refuse to do that quest any chance I get.
Iris Leora Posted October 1, 2025 Posted October 1, 2025 One small favor.... I can't stand those words anymore lol.

It’s a toss up between Sliske's Endgame - I got so lost (even with the guide, I just suck at mazes) and The Needle Skips, where the keywords bit drove me bonkers.
Iron Mosso Posted October 1, 2025 Posted October 1, 2025 Rat Catchers is so bad, spaghetti code and sneaking mechanics are not a good mix/
Xakros Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Underground Pass was a complete nightmare when I did it in 2004. I was there for so long that I still remember the original version of the music that played in the last two zones. But it was far easier doing it again on this account in 2023. Regicide isn't technically as bad, but I ended up dying to a leaf trap after running out of food because I didn't want to have to take the pass all the way back again and losing items from that was one of the reasons I quit my first account. Broken Home is one I really didn't like more recently. I didn't find it particularly scary, it's just the navigation drove me nuts with all the corridors that look the same.
Sirsir Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 I actually quite enjoyed "Mourning's End Part II" and the Elemental Workshop quests on release. They are genuinely fun puzzles that actually make you think, even if the RS2-era obsession with artificial difficulty meant annoying mechanics. I especially had a good time writing some of the first guides for those quests. It made me actually think about whether my solutions were the "best" ones or not. ~~~~~ On 12/31/2022 at 5:53 PM, Sirsir said: There are admittedly some awful filler quests, primarily from the early days, that hardly comprise a meaningful story; but even they were a pleasant diversion from the grind, and still mostly better than the "kill or collect x" most other MMOs still have. That isn't to say that I enjoy every quest in itself, even if I appreciate the experience of questing. The narratively unsound ones are what trouble me more than those with flawed and outdated mechanics, or the overly simplistic plagiarisms adaptations, or the miniquest-tier tasks. "Salt in the Wound" is my go-to least-favorite for being awful in every single aspect (not a joke) and completely ruining a quest series that had so much potential, both as a decent Lovecraftian adaptation and as part of an previously interesting Temple Knight series. In particular, they really need to stop doing God-related quests. They had so much potential in the early RS3 days, but they haven't been well-written in a very long time and have progressively gotten worse in every respect. I think I still have the same answer above. Although, expanding on the last sentence, I have developed a special dislike for "Extinction" after thinking about it more these past few years. All the awful devices and offensive tropes coming home to roost in that quest, the perfect encapsulation of how not to write.
Kris_Kronkle Posted October 12, 2025 Posted October 12, 2025 Rat catchers is easily the worst quest ever
Stonzzy Posted October 13, 2025 Posted October 13, 2025 I'm gonna have to side with a lot of the folks here, Rat Catchers was TERRIBLE.
Douglas Posted October 17, 2025 Posted October 17, 2025 Twilight of the Gods is the worst quest. It's when the main storyline went off the rails. The previous quests in the chain are fine, ending with Eye of Het II, which explains that (spoilers ahead): General Khazard appears with the Eye of Het, having stolen it from Icthlarin on behalf of Zamorak. Zamorak was concerned that Seren would use the Eye of Het to contain the gods and all that are fighting at the front in a closed loop, dying, reviving and fighting forever to keep the Elder God eggs from harm. Seren admits that this was indeed her plan and the other gods are dismayed. Zamorak destroys the Eye of Het, refuses to help contain the power of the eggs any longer and teleports away. This is fine, and perfectly in line with Zamorak's character. He saves the world again. Even still, dirty, filthy blasphemous haters like Saradominists (and their pet chicken Armadyleans), Zarosians, Asshandra, everyone - they do not provide your Lord Zamorak with the proper credit and thankfulness that your Lord deserves for doing this for them, for Gielinor, and for you. Extinction begins and has its huge issues which have been discussed here already. A point of note is that Moia attempts to murder the player - which is something that ALL of the gods should be interested in, not just Zamorak. Having the World Guardian around is a direct threat to each of them. The story writers ignore this. Each of the gods would be relieved to be rid of the World Guardian, who is significantly resistant to their powers. The World Guardian is a threat not just to their personal safety but to their reputations and followers. But the writers have each currently-aligned faction put their entire trust in the World Guardian. It's more forgivable for the World Guardian to be a doofus as we are essentially a bumbling, clumsy adventurer that lucked into getting chosen to receive superpowers. Now, in Twilight of the Gods, the World Guardian decides to give up their World Guardian powers to reestablish the Edicts. Insane idea. Zamorak decides to start spawning demons into villages, which you never see. The rest of the gods are just cool with getting edicted. And then, the most glaring plot hole of all, a "Zamorakian civil war" is set up in future quests in the line, for the reason given that Zamorak apparently didn't have any backup plan in place in case he was ever incapacitated or unavailable. And somehow Daemonheim becomes unsealed where they show up (just so the demons have someone to fight). And then in Aftermath and beyond, none of the remaining gods take the opportunity to smite the absolute shit out of the former World Guardian "just in case", which is an obvious huge glaring mistake. It doesn't make sense for Zamorak to behave like that. It doesn't make sense for the rest of the gods to act like that. It doesn't make sense for the player character to act like that. The writers should be ashamed of themselves, because they threw the entire main storyline of the game away to shoehorn in Zamorak as a boss fight for no other reason than surface level "red guy with demons = bad".
