Streakzer Posted January 24 Posted January 24 Can we talk about the graphics in RuneScape for a second? One of the biggest reasons I love this game is how immersive it is. I genuinely love the art style, and it really pulls me into the world. And yes, I know all the usual arguments. It’s 25 years old, it’s single-core, it’s held together with patches, it’s janky, all of that. But the thing is, I’m running a really solid setup. I’ve got an NVIDIA 4070 Ti Super, 32GB of RAM, and a strong CPU. I can play modern FPS games on ultra or epic settings without any issues at all. Then I jump into RuneScape, max the settings, and suddenly my graphics card is getting pushed hard and I’m sitting at around 60 FPS, or even lower in places like Fort Forinthry. That’s where it starts to affect the experience for me. Immersion is a huge part of why I play RuneScape, and when the game struggles to run smoothly on high-end hardware, it really breaks that immersion. Yes, Jagex keeps upgrading areas like Varrock, and that’s great. But when people with very powerful PCs can’t maintain good performance, it makes you question how immersive the game can really be. I completely understand that RuneScape is designed to be accessible. Lots of people play on mobile, iPads, or lower-spec computers, and that’s part of what RuneScape is. I’m not saying that should change. But it does feel like it shuts out players like me who want to experience the game for its visuals, atmosphere, and overall feel, and who want to use strong hardware to do that. A lot of people say RuneScape isn’t a game for high-end PCs, but for me, that’s exactly what I want. I want to enjoy the immersion, the world, and the way the game looks without performance getting in the way.
madimoon Posted January 24 Posted January 24 I think performance is being considered with the redesign of each zone. It's also not just the environment, ppl with crazy cosmetics and also being condensed into 1 spot like tree are the real problem imo.

I’ve also ran tests with cosmos toggled on or off and sadly there is no difference at all.
Dariot Posted January 25 Posted January 25 Some older areas of the game will hopefully be brought more in line with the vision of the game this year. They have some deep cleans planned for spring / fall months it seems according to the roadmap. With the upcoming updates aimed at removing some acquired bloat in the content over the years, the game should feel a bit better by the end of the year hopefully. I'm sure they've made an effort to see how the game performs as they consider the redesign. On the back end also they might be trying things as new tech becomes available. This isn't the simple Java game it used to be anymore.
Skaders Posted January 25 Posted January 25 There are a definitely lot of issues, and even the stuff with the UI right now isn't perfect, but if the roadmap has done anything for me is that I now have faith that everything will be acted upon and fixed this year. Let's just hope we don't get disappointed and we have a very good year of RuneScape
James Posted January 25 Posted January 25 I just hope we get to a point where everything is consistent. These two existing in the same quest is laughable:

But to this standpoint.... whoever updated the quest and didn't get the old model.... shame LOL
Echare Posted February 24 Posted February 24 I think if there's one thing that's been consistent about RuneScape through the ages, is that it has never run particularly well.
