We've spent some time before Invention's launch, and the weeks after, to discuss when we should be lifting the "XP amnesty" of allowing prismatic lamps, D&Ds and other sources of bonus/direct XP to be applied to Invention. We wanted to let everyone know as soon as we made the decision so in this blog we'll discuss the date, why we chose that date, how Invention interacts with additional XP and more.

Why so long on lifting the amnesty?

We have seen a lot of chatter about this subject on the forums, Reddit, social media and in person at events since release. Some people are calling for it to be much sooner, as soon as someone hit 200m or a bunch of people hit 120. Other people are calling for a standard 3 month amnesty like with regular skills.

We want to set a precedent with all future Elite Skills that there is always a 6 month XP amnesty ending as close to that 6 month date as possible. Elite Skills are large-scale, high impact and desirable skills that we want to preserve for a period of time after launch. Like Invention, which has had a significant economic impact and is a huge reward space for all of our content doing forward. We don't want to disrupt this effect, however marginal, for Invention or for the same impact future Elite Skills will have on RuneScape.

How will lamps, stars, D&D's and others work with Invention?

From 25th July 2016 you'll be able to use any prismatic star/lamp/book that you can use on your regular skills on Invention. However, all XP applied to Invention from lamps, stars, books, D&D's and other bonus sources will be at a 50% reduced rate. Again, this is a precedent we want to set for all future Elite Skills by restricting the amount of additional experience that any of those skills can gain.

In the case of Invention, there are some carefully calculated methods for how players should be leveling and interacting with the skill and we want the impact of additional XP to be as minimal to those methods as possible.

There are also some other miscellaneous points about how additional XP will work with Invention so here's a concise list:

*Tears of Guthix/Guthixian Butterflies - XP will only be applied to Invention if you have level 80 Smithing, Crafting and Divination and Invention is your lowest level stat *Augmented Items - The XP from disassembling/siphoning augmented items will not have bonus XP applied to it. (Including any Double XP Weekend) *Double XP Weekend - The bonus applied to Invention, and all future Elite Skills, will only be 1.5x. This can rise to 2.5x with bonus XP. *Ancient Effigies - There are no plans on adding Invention, or future Elite Skills, to the list of skills available on Effigies.

What about Daily Challenges?

We'll be holding back adding Invention Daily Challenges until we have a complete solution to what those challenges are, how compensation would work and how they fit in to Invention. This is something that we'll be actively discussing but do not have a solution for right now.

What about X, Y and Z?

There may be some things that we haven't talked about in this blog but rest assured that we will be looking at your posts, responding to feedback and updating this blog where we feel that it is necessary. As the amnesty removal is some time away, we have a lot of room for feedback and clarifications on certain pieces of content and how they interact with Invention.

I hope they have a decent system for the daily challenges, since I'm assuming I'll need them to ever go from 99-120 after I max. I'm also now wondering if you're 99 in every skill, does tears of guthix go to the lowest xp skill or does it go to dungeoneering for the 120 + it would be the same for invention

I'm not 120 dg yet, and it use to go to my dung...

now it goes to my agility :/

I'm sure someone maxed can tell you but I assume it's purely do based.

It's not worth wasting bonus xp on this skill. It's already insanely quick as is. Unless you don't care about xp and just want to remax asap you'll bonus xp would be better spent in other skills.

It is one of the most expensive skills. If it weren't scaled down to 50%, it would be pretty decent. And if it scaled up like how Invention's XP curve is scaled, it would be by far the best.
