It lets you take control of the camera.

Yeah, I use the Orb of Oculus. You can get it from some women at the top of the Citadel. The character stays, but it allows you to zoom around and you can hide your character. I did crop the majority of those pictures and sometimes will add a vignette in Photoshop to pull you in. All of the Canifis shots have a vignette added.
