Hey guys,

You may remember that back in March, Jagex received great attention from the Chinese market with reports of an offer of interest in acquiring us. After the necessary period of due diligence, that offer has come to fruition and Jagex has been acquired by Chinese investors.

So what does this mean for the games and for you as a player? Well, to be honest, things are going to stay the same!

The investors like what we’re doing and want us to keep doing it – delivering great games and making them bigger and better than ever before. RuneScape is fighting fit and continues to attract new players, Old School RuneScape is more popular than ever and making a real mark in the world of games with stuff like Deadman Mode, while our Chronicle: RuneScape Legends is off to an awesome start.

Our games will continue to be operated by the existing teams and so, for us, it’s very much business as usual.

This is a huge year for RuneScape and you guys – our amazing community. It’s been a 15 year adventure with you all, and we’re looking forward to continuing with our new backers! This year alone has seen some incredible successes for the RuneScape family of games; RuneScape has introduced NXT and a whole new continent will be released very soon, Old School has seen incredible success with Deadman, and Chronicle has had a wonderful launch and has just released a whole new legend - Morvran! We're also looking forward to the forthcomingRuneScape: Idle Adventures, created in partnership with Hyper Hippo, the developers of cult hitAdventure Capitalist.

All in all, the future looks bright for Jagex, and all of the games that you love to play.

As long as nothing really changes regarding the Jmods etc, but they pump more money into Jagex for game improvements then sounds great. :D

They are simply a chinese mining company. They know nothing about games other than that people pay for them. If they exert influence on jagex (and theyll need to in order to recoup their investment in a reasonable timeframe) then it will be bad. However I am pleased that IVP is out of the picture. Then again, the devil you know is sometimes better than the devil you don't

Not the case according to this source. Apparently they are a gaming company (or trying to be)

The deal, first revealed in March, sees a new board of directors put in place and is described as “the first move in creating a dedicated, highly focused Chinese-owned games company within a newly created structure of a highly respected and well established local organisation, which is committing significant resources to the new entity”.

The release adds that the move “will see Jagex propelled into a new investment cycle to charge forward with growth projects for RuneScape and its franchise extensions, while seeking out additional Mergers and Acquisitions opportunities to ramp up its presence in the gaming space”.

Chinese mining company Shandong Honda, despite earlier reports, is not the investor. The acquisition has instead come at the hands of investors working on behalf of a new Chinese games company that is still in the process of being formed.

“Having visibility in China, which is now the biggest gaming market in the world, the new entity is a compelling and attractive proposition for western businesses seeking to broaden their reach in a fast-rising, rapid growth region,” Jagex CEO Rod Cousens said.

“It will enable them to tap into a creative and development talent pool to design and develop content for the Chinese consumer and engage with, and expand, a global community.

“Jagex will continue to be operated by the existing management team, which has overseen an impressive trading performance in recent times and driven its iconic franchise, RuneScape to continued growth. It will be business as usual for the Company, its players and its employees post-acquisition.”
