Doc
What elements of a song do you guys get more "pumped-up" to?For me, since I only ever really listen to hip hop, it's either the beats or the lyrics/hook. Some songs for me are both, but mainly lyrics. Unless it's a Dre produced track lol. For the rock songs I have it's mostly the beat too.Rather hard to explain for me. There is one song I very much like that has very little words, though. I'll post it below. Other songs have very good guitar riffs (look at Pantera - Five Minutes Alone) that pump you up. Others have the mean, angry lyrics (Six Feet Under - War Machine). Link to comment

Deathstar
I remember in highschool our coach made a playlist of the least pump-up songs ever. It was like Hotel California, Amanda - Boston, Long Train Running, Like a rolling stone, Imagine, Sunshine of your love, and I guess there was like welcome to the jungle, there was that 19 minute version of moby dick, and one of the brick in the wall songs like II i think it was. He made the mix in response to us listening to RATM and Linkin Park and he's like "well rowing is all mental toughness anyways" so he made this mix.OT!: Link to comment
Sephiore
In high school our pre-game warm up songs would be like:Lil Wayne - Got Money (Bitch I'm the bomb like tick tick... rofl)Gucci Mane - Bench WarmersJim Jones - We Fly HighDJ Khaled - We Takin' Ova Dr. Dre - Where I'm FromDr. Dre - Still D.R.E.Hurricane Chris - Ay bay bayNas- HustlersEminem - Lose YourselfEminem - 'Till I CollapseEminem - Soldier D12 - Fight MusicEminem - Go To SleepMims - Like ThisLil Scrappy - Gangsta GangstaThese were just what we used over the course of four years. Someone eventually made a bitchin' mixtape my junior year and he the best verses/beats from most of these songs. Our locker room was probably 200 yards from the field and even with the door closed you could hear us blastin' something like Em's Go To Sleep and it'd be like "DIE MOTHER FUCKER DIE, DIE MOTHER FUCKER DIE GO TO SLEEP BITCH". And our school was pretty much known as a diverse school so pretty much all the other schools were pretty intimidated. Link to comment

No, that's you. This is a topic for "pump-up music," not a genre squabble. If you're not a hip-hop fan, then cool. Oh yeah, MMLP, SSLP, TES, Illmatic, Stillmatic, Resonable Doubt, Blueprints 1-3, Slaughterhouse LP, Success is Certain, WTT are considered "mainstream" by industry standards, but you wouldn't know that, nor would you know who they were made by. You probably think I listen to those one hit wonders like Soulja Boy, Hurricane Chris, Jim Jones or Lil Wayne. You just clearly don't enjoy Hip-Hop, and don't know the difference between good Rap and shit ones. Fuck outta here if you don't even know how other genres work, or even the concept of mainstream in Hip-Hop. If you want, I can screenshot all the underground albums I have if you're still too caught up on mainstream. Link to comment

Sephiore
Too lazy to quote but here (didn't feel like getting on my old comp to get Immortal Technique, Cormega, MURS, CunningLinguists, JediMTs and so on):Now, let's settle this argument once and for all. First, what do you even consider as "mainstream"? Are you talking about mainstream hip hop or mainstream industry? If it's the latter then the list you posted is 95% mainstream. Pretty hypocritical of you, especially telling me to listen to whatever's popular out. Second, how am I a "non-conforming hipster"? I'm pretty sure this is a "pump-up" music thread and I get pumped up by rap. So if your whole argument on that is based on this thread then congratulations. Like I said, you just seem to not like Hip-hop, OK that's cool. You have your tastes that I don't give a rat's ass about and I have mine. Link to comment
