Upgrading to Windows 7.

Here's the deal. I have a Windows XP w/ service pack 3 disk and product key code. Had it ever since I installed it on my computer some years ago. It's sitting with me on my desk.

Now I'm wanting to build an entirely new computer and install Windows 7 on it.

I can get Windows 7 (upgrade version) for 30 dollars with a student discount.

Can I use my old Windows XP installation disk to then upgrade to Windows 7 using the Windows 7 upgrade disk on my new computer once I get it?

The student version of WIndows 7 makes you do basically back everything up and then do a new install.

That's nice.

So can I use my Windows XP disc to upgrade to 7 on a completely clean hard drive? Are you saying I just have to have the product key to prove ownership of a previous version of Windows?

Lol I'm about to upgrade to Windows 8 when it comes out soon. I'd wait on it if I were you. Looks legit :)

Windows 8 won't be publicly available until Fall 2012 at the earliest :kanye:

Yeah!

I already have the Windows 8 Developer Preview. It's legit. I plan on actually reinstalling it on a backup of my current HD, as it's seems to be stable enough to use day-to-day, lol.
