Deathstar
I'll be getting an i5-2410 or 2430 for christmas this year to replace my AMD athlon circa 2001 that i'm using currently. It'll be a laptop with 8 gigs of ram, whatever hd, and it's listed as a 2.3 or 2.4 ghz processor whether it's a 2410 or 2430. I think those are the newer version i5's.. I'll be spending about 500 on it plus tax and the extra ramnz. Is there anything else I should buy with it? What kind of performance can I expect when upgrading from a desktop with a dedicated 256mb video card and 1gig of ram to a laptop with shared graphics? Will i be able to play popular computer games on somewhere around low or will I still suck? could I play LoL and maybe diablo2 without lagging (@same time???????)Gettin paid son. Link to comment
Ninexblue
I know there aren't a shit ton of laptops out there in that price range with a solid 1gb+ dedicated graphics card, but they are out there. I got a Toshiba that I use for gaming occasionally and it's perfectly fine, stays cool and I'm quite happy with it. I know Joshjrn got something with almost the same exact specs last year and he's loved it, too. It's worth looking a bit harder for the dedicated graphics, and checking the reviews to see if it has good cooling. Just my opinion. Link to comment
Popeye
I got a sony vaio F series with 1gb+ dedicated graphics card for $3000 + tax w/e. It doesn't run everything I want it to. BF3 lagged like hell. Edited December 21, 2011 by Flutter1shy Link to comment
Ninexblue
My toshiba was an i5 with 4gb ram and a 1gb dedicated graphics card for about $550 at Best Buy. Worked fine with the fallout games. Link to comment
Gladz
$500 laptops aren't for gaming Link to comment
Damin
You can probably push most modern games at min-med settings. However don't expect much. Link to comment
Deathstar
Thanks for the advice rob. oddly enough, the only computers I can find under 600 with dedicated graphics cards are mostly i7's on sale right now. Might have to settle for some quad core beasty...like i think this will just about tear anything apart:http://www.compusa.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1387259&CatId=4938and it's 629...on amazon for 809:http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-43972AU-Notebook-i7-2630QM-Processor/dp/B004RJJTG6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1324465056&sr=8-1I would still prefer to spend about 80 dollars less with an i5 and similar graphics.sold out now, was a good deal. shipping was 29 dollars. Deathstar
f all that other stuff.gonna get one on newegg, either an acer or an hp i5 in the 550-599 price range with dedicated graphics. probably either:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834157948or http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215197the acer probably ends up being 75 dollars cheaper because im going to be buying more ram and I get a gift card. I'd prefer an hp. both have good reviews. Link to comment
