Embedding and You

Most of the topics posted on this forum are Youtube videos, which isn't a problem in and of itself. What is a problem, however, is when people just provide a link to Youtube, and not utilizing the really sweet (and easy to use) Youtube embedding function. It is a billion times easier to watch and respond to your posts if you embed instead of just lazily copying and pasting the link. So, without further ado, here's a quick how-to guide. The code tags are to show you what it will look like when you are posting.

STEP 1: copy and paste the entire url into your post as you normally would, like so:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fEUcxGhl9Rk

STEP 2: see the v= in the url? Everything after that upto (and not including) backslashes, question marks, equal signs, anything alphanumeric, you want to copy and paste. Every other part of the url can be discarded. You'll be left with this:

fEUcxGhl9Rk

STEP 3: from here, all you have to do is surround this jumble of letters and numbers with the handy-dandy Youtube tags. The Youtube tags:

[youtube]fEUcxGhl9Rk[/youtube]

And there you have it. A nice, easy way to make laughing for everyone else a whole lot more convenient.

There's a nifty "insert media" button where you can past the link in the editor panel as well. We actually didn't even bother writing bbcode for youtube on the new forums because of this nifty function!
