Memphus
My wedding will be August 2013. Where I come from the tradition is to host a wedding "social" quite a few months before the wedding. This is basically a huge party that all friends and family come to. It contains cheap drinks, (usually) a good DJ, and a HUGE silent auction with massive prizes. It acts as a fundraiser to (slightly) offset costs of the wedding itself. 99.9% of couples who get married in my province do a wedding social. They can earn anywhere from $5000 to $15,000. Considering the average wedding costs $30,000+, that is a huge chunk taken away. 800+ people attend. Basically everyone you know, and all of their friends, come to "support" the wedding, and have a fun party with cheap drinks and great prizes. My wedding social is open invitation to everyone, and that includes any Gladz who wish to come (three are already committed to attending). Then the wedding itself it just for the closest friends and family. We want to keep the guest list below 150.The rest of the world needs to catch on to this tradition. Wedding socials are the shit. Link to comment
Linda
So are you saying anyone who can find you in Canadia can stop by your wedding social? Link to comment

Memphus
So are you saying anyone who can find you in Canadia can stop by your wedding social?Absolutely. Once we have a date for the social picked and the details figured out, I will definitely be posting them all on here.Warning: what we call "cheap drinks" in Canada is probably still more than what you pay for drinks in the USA . Alchohol is ridiculously taxed by our socialist government here. At a normal restaurant you pay anywhere from $5 to $7 for a beer. At a beer vendor you pay $50 for a case (24) beers. And yet we somehow find a way to drink wayyy more than you . "Cheap drinks" at a wedding social is like $2.50 each. That is insane as is borderline illegal to sell for that cheap. You need a special permit to do so. Edited August 29, 2012 by Memphus Link to comment

Memphus
Another reason why I'll never move to Canada I was born here. Though I do have aspirations to move to the States, and with my high-demand profession I could easily get a working Visa. The problem is convincing the other half to come :S Link to comment

Jake
why do people have such expensive weddings? i see my wedding having 50 people in a national park with amazing scenery or something like that. cheap, and far more romantic than a wedding hall which is basically an over-hyped elementary school cafeteria Link to comment
Emeraldwpn
why do people have such expensive weddings? i see my wedding having 50 people in a national park with amazing scenery or something like that. cheap, and far more romantic than a wedding hall which is basically an over-hyped elementary school cafeteriaThe same reason as to why in the fuck females want a damn rock on their finger. "Oh your rock looks nice!" "OOOOOOH GUUUURL, this rock is off the chain it cost this much money." "Have you bought your man his ring yet?" "What that $200 worth of a ring, I'll buy it last minute. I don't need to save 4 months for it like the commercials influence people into doing for my ring. HAHAHAHHA"THANK YOU FUCKING DIAMOND BUSINESS CENTRAL, YOU FUCKING MOTHERFUCKERS. Why do you think men are reluctant to get married? It's not because we're afraid to settle down. We wouldn't be dating if we didn't plan on marrying, eventually. Otherwise, we would just stay in the FWB zone. It's that fucking ring. THAT STUPID FUCKING RING. Am i mad for it what it represents? No, not at all, it's the price.Would you buy a car and then a year later it breaks down or runs off to find another owener? THE FUCK YOU WOULDN'T!Yep, I still have a tad bit a bitterness, but it's in a better direction than before. I feel that my woman won't run off and leave me or any other variant. The only person to truly blame for paying the amount is myself, but I know I can still recover and honestly I already have, but I made a new savings plan so it taking longer. In the end, I'm taking my money with me and I really wouldn't be doing anything super special if I had more of the money I spent anyway. I'm just bitching because it's funny and it feels good. Same with the school system. Pay over $9000 for books, go to sell back and you only get $9 for it. REALLY SCHOOL, FUCKING REALLY!? Why in the fuck do you think most people don't want to go to school. HUH, MOTHERFUCKERS, HUH! Honestly, if it weren't for the g.i. bill, I wouldn't be going.Oh well, if you truly think about the value of a dollar, you're getting everything for a steal, damn near. But that's for a discussion somewhere else. Link to comment
