Oh cool, one of these topics -

good value - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834231960

Thought an 840 would be on the weaker side? No Idea .-.

It is on the weaker side. That's why budget is important.

For a purely runescape computer that gpu will do well playing at probably near max settings in 1080p. Finding a 1080p display on a laptop for under a grand is actually somewhat challenging...

I just put this build together in like 10 minutes -

with a copy of windows from your school it's like 775 or from /r/softwareswap like 770 if you don't go to school. add an optical drive for some reason and it's like 800.

it's pretty good and will blast any $800 $1000 $1200 laptop out of the water. It's a pretty sexy build and for another 150 or so could be really good (gtx 970 and a nicer case, still being under $1000 w/ windows) Do you really need a laptop?

I've got MSDN privileges so if you need Microsoft stuff I can shoot you serials.

MSDN is basically the developer site for Microsoft, where they give developers like a shit ton of serials for every item they ever sold.

this is a good deal -

that one or the one above are the best value i could find... the M series cards don't stack up to their gtx counterparts, however, so take that with a grain of salt.

Ended up being about $1100 AUD. I think conversion rate is at 0.90 USD for our dollar atm

Australia... that sucks... what about this one? - http://www.amazon.com/Acer-V3-572G-54S6-Notebook-1-70GHz-GeForce/dp/B00MM2WA8O/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1412393807&sr=8-1&keywords=gt+840m

Where do you usually buy stuff from? Mwave?

I don't usually shop online, I don't have an ebay, amazon, anything account. I will most likely be buying a laptop in store from somewhere local and really just wanted to know basic specs for what I should be looking at

tbh laptops aren't designed for gaming. they are compact and light, they must be able to run on battery for a long period of time, and they don't have sufficient cooling like a desktop.

good performance = lots of heat + lots of cooling = lots of power requirement + lots of extra weight

Yes, but desktops can't be moved and are big and I have no-where to put it.

my desktop sits on my desk, ironically.

They only have laps in Australia.

does it look like a good deal? It's i7 and I think he said 3 Ghz processor. Looks pretty legit, but still gonna look for some others, preferably with i5

The r7 m260 is on par with the GT 740M, and is pretty low end. Wouldn't recommend.
