I guess the idea of the cause is good, but it's all OLD news. Plus, there is questionable accounting going on with that organization and their lobbying to politicians when 501©'s are supposedly not supposed to do that.

Plus, if I had to watch a 30 minute video about every world problem, nothing would ever get done. Also the lack of information in the video is a let down.

Yeah, just too long.

The LRA don't operate in Uganda anymore, although it still looks like they do. The first article actually claimed Kony is defeated. El Oh El. Just because the aid America gave is working does not admit his defeat. Kony uses the downtime of peace talks to recover power apparently, so what are peace talks again?

But there is a lack of information in the video.

If his only goal is to stay in power, it's not hard to imagine one of his soldiers taking over as the leader of the LRA if he were to die. I don't expect any individual governments to get involved as it is not in their interests. The African Union and United Nations have already been helping out by providing support and shelters for Darfur refugees. And if governments were to get involved - to what end? The LRA is just one example of a military in Africa using child soldiers when there are many. If you try to take on the LRA, do you also target rebel groups all around Africa who drug and brainwash children? Certainly in this day and age no nation is going to go to that kind of military expense when they have nothing to gain in terms of resources or national security. I'd love to see Kony out of power, but I just can't see this going much beyond a bunch of money raised towards the effort by donations and selling these "kits".

They certainly don't put all (or most) of their money towards programs in Africa to benefit the people affected by Kony, but a substantial amount does go towards helping those people.

It's an interesting concept and I'm skeptical about it being successful, but I hope the goal is reached.

I think it is around 30% that actually ends its way over to the people, but then there's a little of greasing up of corrupt Ugandan leaders.

I remember the last time the United States went on an international manhunt and how successful that was :krista:

and this one would have no impact on the lives of the taxpayers whatsoever :krista: :krista:

It's a noble cause, but not worth the life of one American soldier nor one American tax dollar.

You sound like FDR when he heard about what the Nazis were doing in Europe. He chose not to do anything, and millions of lives and an attack on U.S. soil later, he finally decided it was time to do something. I doubt this would extend out of Africa, but there's a reason to study history and what happens if you don't supply any intervention to pure evil and crime. Saying it doesn't require any of our government's/military's attention is a bit misguided.

hey guys kony is da new nazis and he is comings for you while you sleep

Don't be a schmuck when you know what I'm talking about. I compared the response to foreign genocide, not the actual culprits and their global threat. Throughout WWII, FDR knew what the Nazis were doing. He turned away refugees, who were in turn sent back to be killed, just so he wouldn't have to get involved. Because he chose to sit idle, it allowed Nazi forces to grow in strength and for the events to snowball out of control. If he chose to be more proactive, there's a good chance that many American (and Japanese civilian) lives could have been saved.

This Kony guy obviously doesn't pose a mass threat like Hitler due to his lack of technology, military strength, and resources, but that doesn't mean their local events won't have a more global impact. For starters, with the amount of territory he controls, I wouldn't be surprised if his presence has some impact on our trade with Africa. It's not America's problem, but it isn't something to blindly ignore and dismiss like was being suggested. The lesson that was supposed to be taught from WWII is that by letting a major issue carry on uninterrupted, you open up the possibility for future catastrophic events that could have been prevented by earlier action.
