She was physically capable of reaching, projecting, and holding notes that few people have ever reached. Link to comment

Joshjrn Posted February 13, 2012 Share Posted February 13, 2012 (edited) The quickest way for a female vocalist to get themselves kicked off of a music talent reality show is to attempt to sing Whitney Houston or Mariah Carey. People typically don't even attempt it now, but in the first few years of their popularity, I remember the "experts" trying to talk people out of attempting songs from those two artists. The average "professional" singer can perform roughly two octaves. They *might* be able to hit three in low volume practice. Both of these women could legitimately belt out five full octaves. Like I said, it's not opinion. You can like or not like their music all you want. Doesn't change the objective fact that both of them have vocal skills that place them into a very small, very elite group in the history of recorded music.
