Someone give me the tl;dr version pls. I cba to watch 20-40 min videos or read really long articles.

I've heard a lot of hate on Microsoft because you can't trade used games and share them anymore. Wat else should I know about these two consoles and are they going to really be significantly better than PS3 and Xbox360?

Xbox requires you to be connected to the internet at some point every 24 hours, if you're not it doesn't allow you to play any games. If you log into a friends Xbox then you may play your games there for 1 hour before they disallow you to play there too.

The Xbox gets all the hate it deserves, whatever negative thing Xbox is doing, PS4 isn't.

I won't bother to get the PS4 on release though, maybe the next year, but for now i'm focusing on getting all the new Wii U games.

I won't buy either just cuz i'd prefer to be able to just get a new laptop instead. But i have always been more of a playstation guy myself.

If you get banned for whatever reason, you lose your whole library with no chance of getting it back, unless your ban is overturned. And you know how Microsoft is with banning people and not giving a shit.

You also don't ever own the game. You are literally leasing it for as long as they let you play it (which could be forever, I guess). It is technically not yours.

And kinect will always be on and always be watching you. Meaning, your console watches you more than you watch it.

And what those guys above said.

But the Dreamcast actually had some cool games. Sonic Adventure 2, while I didn't play it on a Dreamcast, is one of the most nostalgic games for me. I have not seen one game that peaks my interest for Xbox.

By that I mean they are pretty much ending their reign as a console juggernaut. Prior to the launch of the Dreamcast, Sega was one of the more popular console makers at the time. The Dreamcast did a lot of revolutionary things, but ultimately it was one of the least popular consoles of that generation and was quickly surpassed by the Playstation and N64.

Much like Microsoft is trying to do with their five hundred dollar blue ray player. That reminds me - the PS4 is going to be a hundred bucks cheaper than the Xbox One. Another reason to join me when I jump ship and abandon the USS Xbox.

Playstation 2 > Xbox

Xbox360 > PS3

PS4 > Xbox One

Oh well, the only playstation console I skipped on was the ps3, and thats because I had an xbox360 before ps3 was out.

I'm not someone to be "omg I'm only using sony or microsoft, not both" so idk.

Is microsoft planning on doing another reveal with games or something more?  I honestly am surprised that microsoft would release something like this.  It's so half assed...

It feels like the past year or so Microsoft has been dropping the ball on quality/service. Windows 8 is useless to anyone who doesn't use a tablet. The axed MSN Instant messenger and forced their customers to use skype without even asking which they'd prefer. Now the Xbox One is coming out and it just tells me they don't care as much about the quality of their service.

But tablets are the future mannnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, it's amazing that we can have this computer that we can carry around with us

Xbox One is going hardcore on intellectual property enforcing. PS4 is not. And they're both insanely overpriced, less-capable versions of a regular computer. So I'm kind of with Crazedmage here. I could go out and buy the most ass-fuckin expensive graphics card I could possibly find instead of paying $500+ for some Big Brother DRM bullshit.  (Y)

Definitely making the switch to PC gaming. It has always been the most superior platform, but cost has always detered me. So thanks, Sony and Microsoft, for making your shit so expensive that PC gaming will actually be cheaper for me!

And fuck Microsoft following Apple's propietary business model. They're blocking any 3rd parties from developing accessories. My $200 headset will not work on the XBox1 and they will not allow anyone to release an adaptor to make it work.

Xbox done fucked up but somehow it's general rating is still higher than the wii u's :dan:

I won't be getting either but I would get a ps4 even though that does a lot of shit I don't care about.

Both consoles have a weak exclusives list so I really don't see much positive difference between getting one over the other.

Problem is that most of my friends aren't "internet people". So they'll be playing FIFA and such on a console. Which console is yet to be decided :reporter:

So the PS4 is ~£80 cheaper than the Xbox One on release. Simple decision for me.

I've always greatly preferred Playstation to XBox. I've had PS1, PS2, PS3, and I plan on spending the $400 to get the PS4. I had an XBox and chose not to get a 360 because I liked PS3's exclusives, graphics, and operating system much better. For PS4, the only online charges will be for PS Plus ($50/yr) and that comes with several free games every week, as well as exclusive discounts on online purchases. I've been a PS Plus member for the last 2 years, and I've literally gotten thousands of dollars in free games, DLC, and profile customizations.

For the games I can speak for (haven't watched trailers), Infamous, Killzone, and Final Fantasy are all awesome franchises. If you like fun, cartoonish games, Plants vs. Zombies is a lot of fun and the new one coming out looks interesting (after watching the E3 trailer, I played the first game, since I got it for free on PS Plus). Those are the only ones I had the time to watch.

I've always considered PS to be superior, but I think this generation will cement themselves as the undisputed #1 console.

Xbox has copied that system now. Through having gold you get 2 free games per month. The firsrt is Fable III which isn't a good game but at least it's actually moderately mainstream and desired by a few. So that point's essentially irrelevant now.

Personally I liked the Playstation interface and controller over the Xbox's but the Xbox had the superiority in online functionality and communication/socialising.

Haven't played the inFamous series so can't comment but the latter two I haven't liked the last few installations of. Final Fantasy XIII wasn't a good game and that made me completely ignore the release of XII-2. I loved Killzone 1 on the PS2 but I don't think Killzone 2 and 3 were built the right way. They seemed to go for graphics over everything else and when I played them the framerate didn't seem stable enough and there was significant input lag. Those reasons plus the corridor/on-rail shooting elements just annoyed me.

Anyway - Dark Souls II, GTAV and FIFA 14 are the only games on the horizon I actually want and they're all multi-console/PC releases. :dan:

Well, PS3's online was always entirely free. PS Plus has been just an optional upgrade. I heard they're requiring you to be a PS Plus member in order to play online for the PS4, though. It's still a minimal cost that pays for itself in at most 1 month, since you'll get at least a few games each month that you'll play. For example, below are just some of the titles that I've gotten for free. It doesn't include the shorter games, DLC, and PS Vita games I've gotten.

Bioshock 2

Borderlands

Burnout Paradise

Darksiders

Dead Nation

Deus Ex

Far Cry 2
Gotham City Imposters

Infamous

Infamous 2

Just Cause 2

Little Big Planet 2

Little Big Planet Karting

Mortal Kombat

NBA Jam

NFL Blitz

Plants vs. Zombies

Resident Evil 5

Saints Row 2

Shift 2

Sleeping Dogs

Sly Cooper

Spec Ops

Super Stardust

Tomb Raider: Underworld

Uncharted 3

Warhammer 40,000: Space Marine

XCom

I've also gotten PS1 and PS2 Classics, such as FFV, the Crash Bandicoot series, the Resident Evil series, the Spyro series, Twisted Metal, and others.
