Joshjrn
So Vancouver was so mas last night that there was riots that took place after the gameThat's what happens when a country has all of their sport eggs in one basket. Canada still beat USA in the Olympics In the process of being the worst host country ever by not allowing other countries as much practice time as they allowed Canadian athletes, which ended up causing some kid's death Kind of like Americans had more practice time in Salt Lake.Everyone does it, but Canada took it to a level that was not only unprecedented, but alarmingly so. "It’s not just the skaters who are suffering, though. An open-access agreement between the luge teams of the USA and Canada existed for decades but that seems to be at an end. According to the Americans, prior to the 2002 Games in Salt Lake, Canada’s athletes took 60 to 100 extra practice runs in Utah. However, Canada offered the United States only 18 before this year’s competition, in a trade-off for 18 Canadian runs before the World Championships in Lake Placid, New York. The Americans declined the agreement."http://blog.mpora.co...r-olympics.html"One U.S. slider says that some blame should be placed with Canadian Olympic organizers for not granting international athletes more access to the course before the Games. The Vancouver Organizing Committee did add extra training time for the sliding course because of its difficulty, but U.S. athletes told SI that they had had only around 40 practice runs, while the Canadians had hundreds. "The selfishness of the Canadian sliding federations just killed somebody," the athlete says. "We all know about keeping countries off the track [strategically], but at the world championships in Lake Placid [last year] they knew the course was difficult, so the track manager left the course open. We didn't always like that, but no one got hurt."" http://m.si.com/news...EFECDD4.cnnsi2bWould you like any more, or is that sufficient? Edited June 18, 2011 by Joshjrn Link to comment
